Born and raised in Torrance California deep into the LA County Area, Tony Woodard aka TW1 soaked up the west coast lifestyle for the first decade of his life. The name TW1 actually came from the video arcade games he finished, which would ask for three digits. Soon after the name stuck amongst his peers… But it was during the early 90’s when he moved to Moreno Valley where his interest in music began to blossom. In fourth grade a young TW1 would bang on lunchboxes and toy with pianos in an attempt to free his musical spirit growing within.
Though by time he reached middle school his musical knowledge had the chance to expand. It was than that he joined the percussion section and stood out from the rest by playing the majority of compositions his teacher would set forth. Earning his stripes as a young talent with music in his veins earned him the position in a high school concert band during his sophomore year, which only elite musicians could partake in. Sheet music started to become all too simple for the dedicated TW1, as the experiences lead him towards bigger opportunities. By the end of the year he led an ensemble flourishing in symphonic orchestra which could only fuel his passion and professionalism in the arts.
Sporting a slew of credits in the drum line marching band and plenty public performances in football arenas drove TW1 into deeper concentration. By now his request to join the jazz band led his teacher to hand him a special drum set music book which he would study almost religiously in order to improve his improvisational skills. & due to the fact that there was no drum set waiting for him at home he would practice patterns on his knee or pillow until his soul felt musically "exhausted". While others had the benefit of joining bands which would go on to perform for colleges, or church choirs that led to other scenarios, TW1 practiced at home. Yet there was some sort of majestic comfort in the solitude of his garage and the dreams that would race through his mind. So the beats kept drumming and patterns kept pushing. But he knew it was of the utmost importance to remember these sounds and patterns he played in private for a future date which would yield his "beats" into good use.
Some would think that this sort of solitude remains without merit. To the contrary the quiet friend "Tony" that everyone knew had more than muscles up his sleeve back at band practice. No one could believe the focus driving his soul month to month. That by than popular groups and bands from afar would come to hear the "music man" at his best, and beg that he join their ensemble. One thing most of these bands lacked where the musical style TW1 wanted at heart. His local fame and popularity had a lot more reserved than your ordinary musician would aim for.
Little did he know an associate named "Anthony" would later approach him about a rap group he was trying to form called "Cheapskate". TW1 saw this offer as a challenge and was also grasped by the intrigue of the project. Putting his other musical skills and trading them for a pen and a pad gave into another side of TW1… Now a rapper… They recorded his first song called "Passed Around" which poked fun and exploited the local girls in the county area whom had "special talents". Now the music was embedded in his system and took on the form of mental lyricism as opposed to the former. Most people that heard "Passed Around" were in awe of the lyricism he portrayed since they had no idea of another one of his untapped talents. Moving on they focused a lot more on their repertoire by creating and recording a few mix tape compilations which they released and distributed independently. But in 2001 something told him to bring back the musical skills he had acquired in his past so that they didn’t fall out of existence.
TW1 was than introduced to musical software by means of his friend "Reggie" whom had purchased a copy of a music composing program for his pc. Within weeks TW1 had about a dozen fully composed beats in his possession showcasing the fact that his former skills were back to life. But than came the day most producers call the genesis... The introduction to "Fruity Loops", a now common composing software program which can be utilized with actual hardware, and surpasses the competition. Beats flew out of TW1’s hands like the movement on a clock. To this day the heat is still sizzlin’.
A now professional version of TW1 strikes midi keys on a regular basis accompanied by Fruity Loops and his M-Audio setup. He currently works with clients such as Jeff Jones, Fab Life, MHC Entertainment, Shannon Johnson, Seefor, CNF, The Inland Empire, and the legendary E-40. Most of his productions can be found on the recently released compilation titled "TW1 Productionz Vol.1", which is still marketed in association with the group "Cheapskate", and has created a massive buzz in the west coast area. "TW1 Productionz Vol.2" is now being put together in the studio for a later release date.
TW1’s style in terms of production can be put in comparison with Dj Quick, Timbaland, The Neptunes, and 9th Wonder. Though he frowns when put in comparison with such legends since every musician feels they are what they are alone, yet similarities still have to be drawn in order to describe talent. But there are specific areas that are not similar to anything most people have ever heard, so they cannot be described. When a panel of listeners sits down in front of a Woodard instrumental they’ll know it’s nothing of this earth, and truly nothing anyone has heard before. But it’s also his versatility that has him highly regarded in the rap game as a divine force to be reckoned with. One minute you’ll hear the sultry smooth sound of R&B turn into the timely death and pain that rings in a dark melodic hip hop instrumental. From club bangers to symphony strings oiling down your spine Mr. Woodard is proving that there’s never been a better time to be original, and go face to face with the game.
