"To define is to limit"
O. Wilde
If there's currently an up and coming producer that reflects the meaning of this phrase to the fullest, it's got to be Ceasar. Born and raised in Italy, the 28 year old producer made of his versatility and creativity his biggest weapons.
An all-around music lover, this passion for different genres heavily influenced him, giving him a richer and variant sound, avoiding him from being confined under a definition.
From hip hop to r'n'b, from soulful samples to the infectious electro sounds, Ceasar's main goal is to be the "go-to-guy" for every artist, whether lookin' for a smash radio hit or the grimiest street banger.
Startin' his career in 2006 with the release of his Biggie & Jay Z mixtape "Brooklyns Finest", it's the following year, with the release of "Definition Of Empire" (a mixtape where he remixes verses from the whole Def Jam roster over his original production) that Ceasar starts to make a name for himself.
This latest release in fact obtains great success on behalf of both public and critics. It receives positive reviews from Hip Hop Weekly, Rhyme & Reason (Australian No.1 Hip Hop Magazine) and various Italian magazines. RapMullet.com, the "Bible of the mixtape industry", gave the mixtape a 3 out of 4 rate and many of its tracks were featured on different hip hop related websites, from HipHopDX.com to HipHopGame.com.
At the end of 2007, Allhiphop.com (probably the most followed website in hip hop) mentioned "New Jersey Drive" (one of the remixes from the tape that featured Redman and Joe Budden) on their "Top 100 Songs Of The Year". Out of 100 songs, Ceasar's remixed track was the only unofficial song on a list that featured hip hop superstars like Kanye West, Jay Z and 50 Cent.
Steve "Raze" Julien (AllHipHop.com VP) also mentioned the same track as his favorite in 2007 on the websites "2007 Staff Picks" List.
This particular song generated a strong buzz all over the internet: the work of remixing Budden's and Redman verses was in fact so well done to fool more than one dj and website that "claimed the track exclusive when it was really Ceasar hooking it up", as Rapmullet's CEO Big Chew stated in his review of the mixtape.
But it's not only about the remixes. In the same period he produced tracks that featured artists such as Mickey Factz, Skyzoo, Nina B and BET "Freestyle Friday" champs Oun P and Bigg Jigg amongst others. Mickey Factz, Skyzoo and Nina B's track "Hit Me", produced by Ceasar was part of Skyzoo's mixtape "The Skyzoo Archive". Other producers on the mixtape were Dj Premier, Ron Browz, 9Th Wonder and the late J Dilla.
Ceasar has also been busy with other projects outside the U.S.. He joined Canadian/Italian label Prestigio Records in 2007 and with them he produced the entire album for his labelmate Amir (one of the biggest hip hop artists in Italy). The album, called "Paura di Nessuno" was well received from both the public and the critics and obtained extremely good reviews from all the major music magazines in Italy.
The video for the first single ("Svegliati") has been on airplay on MTV and Italian music channels Allmusic, Music Box and HipHopTV.
In 2008 along with Prestigio Records he also joined Eurostreetz, a movement tied with Diplomats that includes the best artists from across Europe.
Currently Ceasar is startin' to work on his yet untitled new project planned to come out in spring 2009.
