Justin Rhodes
background / biography
J. Rhodes is no doubt one of the most talented men you’ll ever meet. Musical mastermind is an understatement, he’s simply indescribable. J. Rhodes is a threat in all he does whether it be rapping, producing, engineering, and even shooting videos. Representing Oak Cliff, Dallas’ most notorious subsection, J. Rhodes is first in line to truly put on for his city.
After garnering success from his most recent projects: The 80’s Baby Sick Tape Volume 1 and 80’s Baby “Merry Sickmas” Sick Tape Volume 2, the people are ready for Rhodes’ third, yes third solo album entitled Gloria’s Sun. J. Rhodes has been working intensely in the studio to provide his fans with his best album yet. To prepare everyone for greatness, J. Rhodes is first dropping Gloria’s Sun .5 Sick Tape on January 29, 2010 which just so happens to be the day Gloria’s son was born. Listeners should expect to hear Rhodes signature baritone voice spitting witty flow over blockbuster beats, as well as vivid storytelling, and all around good music. Gloria’s Sun .5 Sick Tape will show the growth of J. Rhodes as an artist and producer, cementing his spot as the next big thing.
Already a veteran in the game, Rhodes has been doing this music thing for quite some time. Rapping since he was nine, he added his other titles in college when he found himself a rapper with no producer. With his new set of skills he released his first album, the Sound of Music. In 2007, he and two business partners opened the 808 Studios. At the 808, J. Rhodes was able to produce for more artists as well as focus more intensely on his second album, the Sound of Music 2, which was as well received as the first.
2009 proved to be a big year for J. Rhodes. Soon after the 808 Studios disbanded, he took his one stop music shop of production, artistry, writing, and engineering and formed the 80’s Baby ENT with some of the most talent artists in the D. Under his direction, the 80’s Baby ENT has been making their rounds in the metroplex honing their skills and owning the stage. Both Sick Tapes, executively produced by J. Rhodes, have created a buzz likening them to a new age Motown. Outside of 80’s Baby ENT, J. Rhodes also produced ADD Plus mixtape entitled Power of the Tongue. One of his most important accomplishments came in the fall when he won the Producer Beat Battle judged by top industry producers and execs. If the people weren’t listening before, they were listening then. Veteran and multi-platinum producer Mr. Lee was mesmerized by Rhodes’ beats, simply calling him “the truth”.
J. Rhodes is continuing to roll into 2010, Executive Producing for his label artists projects to be released consecutively in the early part of the year. But on the forefront is his project Gloria’s Sun .5 Sick Tape. J. Rhodes has a ‘go hard or go home’ mentality, and he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. He has a fresh story to tell over epic beats so get comfortable with the name: it’s J. Rhodes; you spell it like the keyboard…Aiiight!
