Nick Cicero
background / biography
Hailing from Upstate NY, Nick Cicero is an up and coming producer and composer with a fresh face and a wealth of talent. He has been playing and reading music since age 5, and has been playing trumpet for over 15 years.
Taking up music production in his freshman year at Nazareth College, Nick went from paper composer to full out producer. Starting off producing with Klass- Sick Productions, he worked with Japan’s top producers in j-pop and hip-hop. Following the independent route from there he produced for a number of independent and local artists, gaining more and more buzz when he was featured on hiphopgame.com's track review page with a review on his track "Get an Army" by The Heatmakerz’ Rsonist, featured on Hot 107.9's Studio B Show as a local producer on the rise alongside such stars as Ne-Yo and Ryan Leslie, and was interviewed by Jerry Barrow, former editor-in-chief of XXL's Scratch Magazine and writer for The Source, on nodfactor.com
After continually pounding pavement and cold calling labels, he was able to get in with some other producers that were working with some artists closely connected with Universal Music. The KBC, a production/promotions company out of Miami, put Nick in the great position to work with other quality producers, Neenyo, Streetrunner, and The Rockit Scientist. It also resulted in Nick working with artists Jayko and Faytal, two artists on the rise.
However Nick isn’t just a hip-hop producer. He also has written for commercial projects and student films including for companies like Ford, Dime Magazine, Howcast.com, Nazareth College, Leo A. Kline Home Improvement, The American Dairy Association, Chappell Auto Brokers, Branch's Driving School, Go Figure Gyms for Women, and the NY Giants. Not to mention he was 1 of 20 chosen to pursue an Advertising Masters at the prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University, graduating with a 3.8 GPA in the master's program.
While honing skills on both the software and sampling sides of production, he continues to pursue his passion for jazz. A co-founder of the group, Loose Change, Nick worked with the other members to experiment with free improvisation in a live setting. The recordings of their interpretations of Ornette Coleman’s “Science Fiction” album was the talk of northeast jazz circles, and though the group has since folded, the music lives on.
Recently Nick took a close 2nd place at the November iStandard Producer Showcase to a great competitor and producer, Parlay. Nick finished only one point behind. He has also signed on as a Viral Marketing Manager for iStandard Producers and hopes to help build a great service for other producers.
At the end of the day it’s about music.
